Langtanga porters carry five sheets of plywood past the Upper Langtang model house en route to Kyangin Gompa, three hours above at an elevation of 3850m.
This model house was built by Langtangpa with technical support from an NGO called OM Nepal and financial support from Samaritan's Purse. The model house served as a prototype for government approved building designs and a training module for Langtang workers. Though NGOs were not able to help Nepalis to reconstruct their own houses until recently, the two model houses in Upper Langtang and Mundu will eventually be donated to the oldest man in the community and an orphaned child.
An ethnographic documentary titled "Dagam Namgo: The Hidden Valley of Langtang, made by Radka Kvicalova and others from OM Nepal based on years working to understand the language, culture, and place of the the people of Langtang. Many of the Langtangpa were happy to see and hear stories and songs from family and community members they have now lost.
