Walking across the debris field created by the avalanche that destroyed the village of Langtang. When the earth started shaking on April 25th, I was talking with this man, Dindu Jangba, just a few kilometers below in Godhatabela. We ran together, he helped the people stranded at Godhatabela while they were waiting for evacuation, then he climbed back up over the avalanche to find and help others. He lost his mother and many others. I have gotten to know him more in Kathmandu, while the displaced people of the Langtang Valley were encamped in Kathmnandu. Standing here with him was an overwhelming feeling. He said "We can't even imagine this in our dreams."
Looking up toward where the avalanche came from.
Acres of trees blown down by the blast. The Langtangpa are hoping to salvage this timber to rebuild, but need permission from the Langtang National Park.
