A group of porters from the village of Gre (elsewhere in Rasuwa district) head back down after carrying in kitchen supplies provided by our NGO, Rasuwa Relief. They were eager to return home, as many people across Nepal feared another earthquake would come around the one-year anniversary of the April 25, 2015 event (part of a folk rumor that was going around Nepal).
At 3850m, Kyangjin Gompa is the highest permanent settlement in the Langtang Valley and the major trekking destination. One year after the first earthquake, a few of the guesthouses have been repaired or rebuilt, yet the majority of people continue to live in temporary shelters and shared spaces. Because the village of Langtang was destroyed, many of the people of Langtang are staying here now; and a handful of maybe 25 or 30 people spent the winter here.
